Part # Greyed Out On Purchase Orders?

Post by modeltmaniac »

After the last update, part numbers on purchase orders are greyed out. We used to be able to click on the purchase order part line, copy the part number from the first window that popped up and then paste it into the vendors program for ordering parts. Now we have click on the inventory button as well to open the next dialog window to copy the part number for pasting into other programs. Is there a specific reason for this change? Can it be changed back?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for you question.

Need some more specific information to better assist you. First, is understanding the need to do this. Are you creating POs for vendor catalogs that are not already integrated to Manager SE? I would also like to know on specifically which screen you find the PO part numbers dimmed. I went to a PO worksheet and double-clicked (same as Edit) an item and found I could copy there:

On PO's, Inventory part numbers are greyed out, along with description and manufacturer. Perhaps these parts are also inventory records?

That's quite possibly the answer, but this has been true of inventory parts since inception.

Hasn't always been like this. Been using Shopkey/Mitchell for over 15 years. This past year we upgraded to Manager SE. I like to copy/paste into other parts suppliers that don't have integrated catalogs. Never mattered before either way. Been doing it the same way for a very long time. Yes these are inventory parts.

Now I see what you mean looking at a 5.9 install, they were (incorrectly) not dimmed in the PO worksheet despite being inventory items. The purpose of dimming inventory items is a visual indication that they are in fact inventory records but more importantly that changes are blocked so nothing interferes with their being added or subtracted properly. (any changes to part number or description would cause the inventory QOH not to move and result with inventory problems). Manager SE was coded correctly to be consistent whereas 5.9 was loose in this regard; I do not expect that to change.

As for this maneuver you're doing, just un-check the Inventory Part checkbox, copy the P/N as before, then re-check the Inventory Part box.
