Parts Margin/Markup Ideas

Post by ricmorin »

There was a thread earlier where users expressed an interest in making the margin field on a part record located on an Order a user entered field where a new sell price could be calculated. I think this a great idea. I think it should go onto the Enhancement Request List if not already there.

Then I was thinking, parts margins are really important. We need to know when we are not making a minimum margin. We need to be able to set a minimum margin. That way, any margin that appears anywhere will turn red if not at or above the minimum. This especially rings true with User Entered sell prices.

This margin should also appear on every inventory record right here....

When reordering parts electronically, a price check gives us instantly the new cost. Right next to this is the sell price, generated either by the matrix or user entered values. Having the margin HERE would give users INSTANT feedback on their margins, even before they place an order. And they get the opportunity to adjust their User Entered price for said part.

So what do you think? Would you like to see more emphasis placed on parts magins? Why or why not?

I can tell you from personal experience using the Enterprise edition that this feature is great. I use it every single day. I can check every single part on the fly and make my margin adjustment and the sell price updates. It is by far the single most important feature in this program. I hope Mitchell will incorporate it into SE. Below is an example of how I can change to sell price by margin percentage. No hard math to do. :D

I like it to. The margin could appear in the PO Worksheet, the order grid, and the icing on the cake would be to allow input of a margin and have it roll the sales price accordingly.

Thanks JD.

I had no idea this was somewhat present in Enterprise. I was just looking at my parts margins this weekend and looking for a way to keep up on them.
