We just installed 'Management software update for version 5.9 only' that was recently mailed to us. Why wouldn't we have recieved 6.4?

6.4 upgrade is by request only. You don't get it automatically since it's a major database change. Not everyone is ready for the major changes 6.4 brings.

What types of changes? My boss is old school. We use this Mitchell Manager for estimates and ordering parts. We write work orders by hand. Our big issue is that we can not figure out whether or not we have ordered a part. We always end up calling O'reilly's to ask if a part order came through.

SE was never going to be an automatic shipment to due to differences in requirements for Windows operating systems, PC memory, etc. Also if you were running certain third party programs that relied on a database connection that was now SQL instead of MS Access, these programs would stop working and the phones would ring even more than they already do. Check the information below and you'll have a better idea what to do next.

This site (follow link at right) was built to show the new features, explain the differences in PC environment required to run Manager SE, check your system and a form to order the upgrade: http://seupgrade.com/

As to your parts ordering question, I don't think you've told us whether you have Manager or Manager Plus? If you are "writing work orders by hand", how is it possible that you're ordering parts electronically through Manager program?

The big changes are all behind the scenes so to speak. Function and operation remain unchanged, except for ongoing enhancements.

You may want to persuade your boss to use more of Manager. Having this wonderful product and writing orders by hand seems counter-productive.

We have Manager Plus. My boss just doesn't like to use the printer. So we use Repair Orders that are carbon . We do estimates on this system and order parts through the 'First Call' tab, but when we write up the bill, we refer to the receipts that came with the parts. When I first started here, he had me run to Staples to buy ink for the 25 year old fax machine. I had the salesman come in a few months ago to help me to bring my boss into the 21st century, but he just gave me a book to study. My boss is suspicious of computers, he calls the usb flash drive a 'key' and has no idea how they work.

You DO have your work cut out for you.

Since you have Manager Plus, a purchase order is automatically generated every time parts are ordered. With the selected order open, click on Options at the bottom of the Order screen, then click on Purchase Orders. You will see one or more POs listed for this order. Click Select and see that the parts are on the PO and thus ordered.

The 'show parts needed to complete order' list should be updating (subtracting what's been ordered) when you order parts. I can't tell from here how you're going about this but it's a fair assumption that the process is not going quite to plan.

When you say order parts using the "First Call tab" are you referring to a parts catalog button INSIDE Manager Plus or your internet browser?

That problem is my problem also..a confirmation sent icon or something.

Actually, we may be using Manager rather then Plus. How can I tell for sure? Top left corner says 'M+ Manager'

All versions share the same home or "splash" screen. The actual product and version number are always in the lower RH corner. Yours probably reads Manager MU 6.4.608 (or 612).

That's right, you're still on 5.9; so you have single user Manager. Even though you do not have Manager Plus with POs and inventory, you can still tell that parts have been ordered. Let's review the sequence to be sure this is how you're doing it:

1. Select the customer and vehicle and take it to the Order screen
2. Click on the FirstCall button to open the catalog
3. Locate some parts (I used radiator hoses) and check their boxes to put them into a catalog Quote
4. Transfer Quote (back to Manager Order screen)
5. Click on Parts Ordering at the bottom of the Order screen
6. Click on Price Check - see the costs and availability
7. Click on Order Parts (I sent a test order to a demo account)
8. Click on Parts Ordering again; with Show Parts Needed for This Order selected, the list is blank. Switching it to Show All Parts, I see the two radiator hoses. Okay these were ordered.

Make sense?

If you did have Manager Plus, you'd have a bottom screen View POs button.

I followed your instructions and when we went back to parts ordering, the parts are still there and tagged. I did click 'Show Parts needed'

I had to give two training sessions today so was rushed in my earlier response.

Did see your support email so I know it's in process.
