2009 F150 4.6 Spark Plug Labor Seems Wrong

Post by sbebenelli »

Got a 2009 Ford F150 4.6 engine VIN 1FTRW14829KC62924 that is showing 2.8 hours for spark plug R&R. I do not feel this is correct. I assume this is for the 5.4 engine. Another resource we have says 1.7 for the 4.6 engine. It took me 30 minutes. Super easy job to do.

The 5.4 calls for 2.6.

One thing that I'm careful on is the difference between what I can do a job for and what the job is worth. As a veteran with 40 years experience, I can do many jobs in a fraction of book time. If I charged only those fractions I'd soon be out of business. Most CEL diags are around .2. Even at our diag rate I'd lose money. I'm sure you're aware of this. I usually rely on the book time as a GUIDE. If anything is WAY off I adjust.

Now if your business model simply charges for time spent, I hope your rate is 250 coconuts or more. :D

I most always go by book time. This one just seems off to me. I went with the 1.7 the other source listed.

Me too. That's the beauty of being your own boss, eh?

Just a quick note; these are ProDemand coverage issues and not technical issues with Manager SE so the posts will be moved to that topic area. Thanks
