It sounds like GM is going to play hardball on DEXOS certification. None of my Mobil1 bottles claim DEXOS cert. yet. I am being very careful here and using only oil that meets DEXOS.

seems like we're at the "fluid specific" issue again. i was talking to a tech from a local g.m dealer and he was telling me of a big issue at the dealer. a vehicle was towed in with an engine noise and a jiffy lube sticker was on the windshield. the vehicle had 8k on it and the engine was blown. the lube sticker had the wrong viscosity on it. the warranty was voided by g.m. the tech went on to tell me that the engines now require high oil pressure as well as volume and the incorrect oil will not do it. i remember years ago chrystler had a super charged engine that was puking in colder weather. now being in a colder climate i saw a few of these at the dealer across the street. if the vehicle wasn't allowed to warm up and accelerated hard the pistons would tear apart. i guess they should have waited until the proper oil had been available.

Neat. My supplier is probably still drawing on old stock. Good to know, though. This way we'll already have an approved oil in stock. Thanks.

Relatedly I attended a meeting a few weeks back and Valvoline was another vendor presenting. They talked at some length about GM's Dexo standards and what their position was on this. I believe I heard them say they were not keen on any strict licensing and that they were talking about equavalent standards of their own development.

Don't quote me, might be worth a look around the internet.

Me too. There are many companies claiming they are dexos equivalent, but if it does not bear the official dexos logo like the one above, I'd be leery.

Valvoline has been 'anti-dexos' for some time now. It's reported that they submitted several formulas to GM for licensing and actually got an offer to approve one. But they declined. So as far as I know, none of the Valvoline products are 'officially' dexos approved.

Most people would get away with equivalents ok. But I'd hate to be the one buying an engine when something happens.

Anyone who is an Iatn member should check Kevin McCartney's posts on oil and Dexos. I've learned alot from him.
