Feature Request; Add Link to Embedded Pictures

Post by ricmorin »

When adding pictures to labor items using Mobile Manager, it would be wonderful if MM added the url link to the 'work performed' field for later retrieval from the desktop; much like how MM adds a inspection link to the RO. This would also serve as a reminder for the Service Advisor that there is a picture there. We are using a workaround alert for now.

I'll put the suggestion in.
You have the picture there as part of the job line. Is your work around sending it as a text then copying it?

In Manager, which the SA uses, there is no indication that a picture is attached. We use a series of characters in the body of the text to alert the SA there is a picture, otherwise they would have to look at their tablet to know if there was a pic. Not every labor line needs a pic, but when we do attach a pic I want the SA alerted on the desktop. Often these pictures are for SA assistance.

I've thought of your suggestion. It's a lot of steps and I haven't tried that yet. Seems like we have computers to do the work for us, eh? :D

Ric, I don't know if this would be of any help or not. What I do is I created a inspection called miscellaneous. I don't have any items to inspect under it. I use it to take pictures of stuff that are not under any main inspection report. Say a customer has only one concern and is not the type you can do a courtesy inspection on. say he is concerned about a squeal from engine on start up. We see it needs a serpentine belt and tensioner We will take picture of just those items and write up in the tech notes what the issue is and text it off to him. Mitchell saves the report to invoice. It may not be for specific labor line but gets the job done. Just a thought.

That's a good idea. I've thought of something similar and at least that gets it on the RO for the SA to see. A little more work for the tech because they have to start the inspection which is subject to the rules, etc. that one may have in place. A simple picture attached to the labor line is all I really want. The explanation is already in the 'work performed' field so that may need to be somewhat duplicated in the inspection. I like the idea, though. I'm trying to go completely paperless on the process side of things. I don't do 'free' inspections although I do use the inspections for customer pay items and some loaner car checks, etc.

I haven't used a clipboard or a pen for a whole week. It's a little scary when you've done things that way for nearly 39 years, but it's working fairly well. Just a few kinks to work out.

I am headed in that direction also. I am at the point where the guys don't use any paper. The office is another story but we are working on it.

So your idea is a fairly good workaround. Take a picture with MM (attached to a labor item). Open the picture and click on the text button. Select the link url and copy it. Close out and create a new note. Paste url into note and save. No need to actually text the pic. All can be done right at the tablet. Thank you Paul for the great idea. This will do until they can integrate the feature.

Any thoughts from Bolt On on this yet? When we have a car in for multiple problems and multiple pictures attached to multiple labor lines, it gets to be a pain.
