Network Setup

Post by BenjaminPeterson »

What is everyone using for a network setup? I am having issues with techs losing notes and info they are typing up. I was thinking of using ubiquiti repeaters and setting them up as mesh.

We have one wireless access point in the middle of the shop. Seems to work fine, even reaches out into the parking lot (with the doors open). Probably will get an outdoor repeater for winter. Signal is a little weak when the doors are down.

My IT guy was telling me about a product where you set up multiple access points wherever you need them, then they are all handled by a controller that automatically switches connected devices to the strongest AP. All AP's have the same SSID. The hardware provider is PAKEDGE. What's really cool is when you add a new AP it is automatically configured.

It may be overkill for my operation. We'll see how parking lot coverage is during the winter where the doors are closed. Maybe.

Question why is it that whenever it loses signal for a second it deletes all the data. Why is it not locally saved and/or have a time out of 5 mins before the connection is killed and access is killed no offense but it makes no sense.

I've found that while I have a labor item open, the data I type is not saved until I close it. I'm no programmer, but it's likely built that way to save on wireless traffic?

This is a good question that I will go to the programmers and ask about.

Software lives. It is one of the things that has come to my attention while working here. What I mean is that it is constantly, or at least should be, changing and growing. In the process of building any software package or product, every possible scenario has to be considered. Even with that in place, new scenarios will be created by solving the others. New scenarios will be created by the user. New scenarios........ Software lives and has to continue to grow.

Just saying.
