2008 Honda Odyssey
Based upon the VIN Manager decodes vehicle as a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX, however it's a 2008 Honda Odyssey EXL which isn't even an option using the Model drop-down. Of course there's no badging what-so-ever on the vehicle. We did receive incorrect parts...just trying to avoid going forward.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
That's kind of a sub-sub-model; Odyssey EX with leather.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
You wouldn't think that would cause incorrect parts.

Yep, incorrect plugs. We ordered a plenum gasket as well, not sure if that was correct or not, but never used it.ricmorin wrote:You wouldn't think that would cause incorrect parts.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
How did you order those plugs, electronically? What vendor protocol?
There are 2 engines for those as a rule. VTEC and an i-VTEC, or J35A6 or J35A7. WorldPac decodes this as an 'L' and a i-VTEC. Nexpart also decodes it as an i-VTEC but doesn't mention the 'L'.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
This round the order was placed via phone from Eastern Autoparts Warehouse. Mitchell1 decoded the vehicle as an EX (there isn't even an option for EX-L). Parts arrived, we compared compared them and after digging in found the discrepancy.ricmorin wrote:How did you order those plugs, electronically? What vendor protocol?

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
From Wikipedia listing for 3rd generation Odyssey (2005-2010):
Engine power was increased to 255 (re rated to 244 by the new SAE J1349 guidelines, and used in 2006+ model descriptions) and EX-L and Touring models received Honda's VCM, or Variable Cylinder Management system. This enabled this van to receive U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy ratings of etc. etc. etc.
The Touring model we do show may reflect the differences mentioned above.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
Exactly. The 'i' in i-VTEC denotes the cylinder management system. Most lookups will show both engine choices and are a big source of wrong parts.

Agreed on all the comments. Maybe I'm missing something here but I reported it b/c there was no option for EX-L in Mitchell1, it defaulted to EX.ricmorin wrote:Exactly. Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
You mentioned the wrong parts. I own an EX. It's not a touring and it's not an 'L', but it has the i-VTEC engine. Thinking this was a plain EX wouldn't have helped you get the right parts, even if you looked them up online. You absolutely need to know the difference in these engines when getting parts. Just saying it's a 3.5 isn't enough. I bring this up because I've been down this road before with the Odyssey, many times. Sometimes the online lookups give you the wrong engine.

Re: 2008 Honda Odyssey
Just ran into the same problem as Mitchell didn't decode to the EX-L model. Big difference when ordering an engine. : (
