VIN Decode on 8.2.1.81

Post by rhillig »

After updating to the 8.2.1.81 version, when entering vehicles into the customer file. I am having a strange problem. (I am entering trailers that don't vin decode) When entering the trailer I enter the License, VIN and then enter 2021 in the year - it automatically puts Toyota for the make & RAV4 Prime automatically fill in. The first time I thought it was a fluke, but it repeatedly did it with different ones.

I duplicated that here also.. Strange because the VIN only has 16 digits, the VIN itself would not decode, the plate would also not decode, I had to have plate, VIN and 2021 entered

Oooop = I didn't notice there was only 16 digits in the VIN. It won't decode because it is a trailer. But just thought it was weird that it defaulted to the RAV4.

I believe this occurs as it is the only 2021 vehicle in the database so far. At least that is how it appears. I advise you to use a year more close to the trailer or avoid a year altogether.

2021 is the year of the trailer. Now that I know it is doing it, I will just make sure to change all the fields to what I need. I just wanted to make sure someone knew about the problem in case there is something to fix it.

Haha. Sorry about that. I was just at your website and saw all the trailers. Cool!

Thanks! We made the switch to trailers sales only last year after we could not find anymore techs. We wouldn't put cars on the lot until we had gone through them & with being so busy in the shop with customer work, it was getting sometimes up to 5 months before we could get them checked over & ready for the lot. So right now we are doing vehicle service & new trailer sales. Got to adapt with the times!

Hi Becky,

Ric is correct. The 2021 Rav4 was the only 2021 model in the last data update we had at the time of building the release. As you'll see in ProDemand, there are quite a few more now, so the next update will have a more extensive list and behave like usual.
