Appointment State
I was hoping to find away to change the background color of custom appointment states.

The background color does not change just the flag on the left side of the appointment. This color can be changed in scheduler -> Settings -> Scheduler States. Once there you can select your state and then modify the color.

Just to follow up on this as to why: The background coloring is reserved for other views, e.g., Technician.
