TIP: Vehicles Customers No Longer Own?

Post by slowtech »

How do you handle vehicles after customers trade them in. Do you remove them from the data base? If so does the history remain with customer? Thanks, Tom

We usually delete them if they're gone for good. The history will still be there.

I have made a customer named zzzzcustomernolongerowns. When a customer sells their vehicle, trades it or junks it, I transfer it to this customer. That way if somewhere down the road, it comes back in, we still have the history.

Exactly, I've heard it called the "orphan" file as well.

With our specialty, we usually see them again. I will delete a vehicle only when it has been junked. We just leave it there till it comes around again. My guys can tell me whose truck it is. This is Elton John's old truck. I then go into his acct and transfer the vehicle.
