1966 Pontiac GTO Oil Leak

Post by Tim Martin »

The customer has a 1966 Pontiac GTO that has a bad oil leak at the rear crank seal, not sure which engine it may have. I am looking for approximate time to R&R engine to replace rear main crankshaft seal. This one leaks bad.

I realize probably many on this forum never worked on a car like this but I have back in the days of my Dad's garage in the sixties and seventies. THe issue is I have no idea how to give the owner an estimate for this job.

Is it not a 2 piece rear main? I don't know what the wear is like on the engine but sometimes on those older engines they will never completely be leak free from that area. Here is an image from my old Mitchell labor guide on engine labor times.

what we do on old cars and hot rods is we tell the customer that is time and materials .because you never know what you are going to run into or who has been there before you
