1969 SS Chevelle 396 Lifters Or Cam?

Post by 92zman »

We have a 69 396 here and it has taken out 2 lifters. This car is stock only has 60000 miles numbers matching. What to know if i can just replace the 2 lifters or all the lifters or do i need to replace cam and lifters?

If the lobes look really good, I would just replace all lifters, but you leave yourself prone to if it happens again, you were the last ones to touch it. To CYA, replace cam and lifters, make sure they are using a high zinc oil, and good quality oil, and change at least once a year. I have cars that I run Valvoline racing oil in, high zinc, only may put 500 to 1,000 miles on in a year and still change it every spring. Cheap insurance.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
