Is there RPM reading on the scanner when cranking during the symptom? Scope the crank sensor during warm restart.

agreed, sensor is temp sensitive and since it's really only used during initial start up it can fail during a drive cycle and if the engine isn't shut off it will never be needed again. a little foggy here but isn't there a second sensor that is a balancing one that should be replaced as well. i'm thinking that they're both fitted to read the fly wheel. could be wrong but i've got that "i remember one that really messed with me" feeling. it was a chrysler and i think i had to replace two sensors to solve this issue.

check to see if the starter is getting the signal to start before you go replacing sensors. it might be the starter heating up and not wanting to work. remember the sb chevys with headers and no starter wrap?

If i remember correctly, a faulty camshaft position sensor would cause this issue.
