2001 Mercury Villager - Tie Rod Torque Specs

Post by 1stephen2 »

What is the torque spec for 2001 mercury villager sport outer tie rod to steering knuckle nut? Some sources are telling me 26 ft lbs, that doesn't sound right to me. Is it?

My source confirms that spec. About 25 ft./lb.

34nm, 25.5 foot lbs. the only other thing i would mention here is that i've seen issues where after market tie rod ends seem to loosen off. i bring them snug plus 1/2 a turn. the spec is great to keep the taper from wearing in the knuckle. i personally think that it would have to be multiple over tightening to cause any damage. i've seen it before but usually because some idiot installed the wrong tie rod end. as a rule i'll add 5lbs to spec unless it's a virgin part and oem.
