Remove the old fuel pump gasket, put the new one in its place and lower the replacement fuel pump into the tank, facing the same direction as the old pump. Make sure you do not bend or otherwise deform the fuel level float arm during the installation. No its inside of the tank and has to be cut out for the new pump? Rotunda sells a specific tool but was seeing if someone else had an idea before I spent $200 on it.

If you are talking about those plastic tabs in the bottom of the tank, I have cut them with a pair of wire cutters I have that the cutters are sideways compaired to normal "dikes". It is not the easiest thing to do, but I don't want the tool either.

I checked the repair procedure but there was no mention of it. Then I found it in a TSB. Tool looks like an end-nipper. Redesigned pump doesn't need the nips it would seem. Cool. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, thats what I was trying to think of calling my cutters, they are end nippers, the ones from ford are longer and stronger then a regular pair, kinda like the nippers they use to trim horses hoves when shoding them....

ya and I didnt want to leave stuff in the tank so I would then have to drain it and clean it out. I had a cougar with one also. they didnt make this pump to be repalced poor design or the car outlived its expectation.
