2000 Merc Cougar - 2.5L A/C Knocking Noise

2000 mercury cougar 2.5 when you turn a/c on loud knocking noise! thought it had a timing chain slapping. have now changed timing chains & tensioners, belt, belt tensioner, idler tensioner, a/c compresor & power steering pump have no ideas can some one help?

So help me I cant remember what kind of car but......had one do this and it was the mount bracket. Had cracked and would develop a knock when the a/c was turned on. HTH.

i've had noises like that on more than a few cars and it was the rubber insulation on the crank pulley had dried up and the pulley was a bit sloppy.

going to try the harmonic balancer it seems to be a little sloppy. well that's another strike know such luck.

is the noise at......
idle
accel
decel
0-30 mph
30-60 mph
on turns
all the time.

is it a knock on the window or knock on the fender sound?

I thought it was only monte carlo's that had problems with a/c brackets.

the flex plate is broke all the way around the center !!!

i've seen that before on fords. a tip here, when you drop the flex plate out see if there is imprints of the bolt heads on the converter. fords had an issue with the thrust bearing wearing and under acceleration the crank would push back against the converter.
