That's what I thought.

Spraying Gumcutter or propane around intake seems to find no leaks. No rpm change.

MAF is 0.00 volts with KOEO. KOER at idle is 1.8 volt.

O2 reading at idle fluctuates between .3 and 1.0 volt. If I put my scan tool on lac scope function the pattern is seesaw but rather choppy.

The other thing I noticed during the night when I was testing it wasa that the rpm reading on my scan tool is very erratic, from 700 rpm to 1500 rpm. Also, I noticed that the tachometer in the dash is stuck at 1600 rpm and never moves. Does that give us any clues?

How about if you add fuel into intake system, like threw the vent hose to the air filter housing or some simmular place, not to check for vac leak, but to determin how the engine reacts to added fuel... This will tell you if it is getting too much or too little fuel.... Or that the problem is not fuel related.....

Ok. Guys! I got this beast fixed!

You are not gonna believe what it was. Inside the distributor there is an optical sensor that has a rotating disc passing through it. Well, the shop that had it before it got here evidently had the inside of the distributor apart and got grease prints on the weeeweee little slots around the perimeter of this disc. I cleaned it off with brake clean and air dried the inside of the distributor out, put cap and rotor back on, and presto! it runs like a champ.

So, there you have it. Who woulda thunk such a thing? One thing that helped: It was 8PM and there was no one else in the shop. No phone calls. No interruptions whatsoever. I could stay focused on the job.

Now to make out a bill.

Thanks guys for the ideas and support. This one was a learning curve for me.

Guess what guys! This van is back with the same problem it had when it originally came in for!

I cleaned the reluctor wheel inside the distributor and it runs fine now. What is the deal? Is that reluctor disc that sensitive or do we have a developing issue inside the distributor? I've not run into something like this before.

Tim does the Dist have a vent in it or the cap? I would check to make sure it "breathes" ok. Just my 2 cents

Check PCV system, if it is not working correctly, the crank case will build excess pressure and push oil out the shaft. Might also look for stopped oil returns....
