POLL: Estimated Parts?

Post by timbre4 »

Estimated parts has been in the system since the beginning; checking to see how much usage there is. Thanks

Yes. We use it on bigger jobs where the exact cost of parts is still unknown.

I did at one time but since I have access to most of the OEM parts through the MORE website I pretty much do not use the MOD parts estimator. Through the MORE site, I can also order parts from the dealers.

Estimated parts has nothing to do with MOD Estimator. It is a field within a labor to add some unknown parts cost to the order without creating a parts line.

You know I have seen that for years and never even dawned on me to question what it was for. LOL

My bad, but the way the initial question was worded I didn't pick up on the usage.

On larger jobs where there may be a lot of little parts that may add up to a significant amount, I add a dollar figure in that window. For example, an engine job may have 50 dollars of little parts which can be accounted for here.

I have tried this but don't see any change in the invoice dollar amount beyond the labor dollars I charged.

It's for use at the Estimate stage or Revision. That's when the amount placed there is figured into the calculation. Once at the RO stage, the field is ignored. Ideally you'd assign a value there before customer approval. Then when approved, either by converting the Estimate into an RO, or by transferring a Revision the value is added to the total approved amount. It's ignored after that because you'd be replacing it with your itemized parts.

In short, it bumps up your estimate a little to account for the unforeseen.

Thanks Ric. That makes sense. I was trying at the RO level. I will retry with an estimate.

Always saw it, but never used it. I just add a parts line and put misc, that way the tax shows up also.

Not Estimator or Estimate Guide parts, we're talking about this field in the Labor item entry window:

I never noticed it, all of the years I used the software. I knew Ric would be using it.
