rule of thumb in my shop is when we repair or replace do to head gaskets we replace 02's. we all know they've been hit or maybe a front on a head that didn't push coolant is ok but if it's isolated to just one we replace all. if the customer refuses to agree to replacing the lone soldier i'll just do it, tell them i cracked it somehow and spread my cost around in the parts. it's just a prudent move. i know that if i didn't replace it,it would pop a code the next day. in this case you stated both heads are cracked, we know that all 02's got hit with coolant. don't use off shore universal ones please. i believe there are 02 manufacturers that will claim the only difference is the length of the lead. not true....................

I'm slowly learning all the things you said in that post. :(

On these cars, replace the VANOS seals anytime you have it apart or are working on a drivability complaint. There's a guy that sells a kit for it. Google it and you will find him. If you do this, the owner will love you and you will save yourself much heartache.

amen to that but i must add, bosch direct fit oem. i lol at a sales man that tried to tell me that cutting and splicing the connector from the old 02 to the oem direct fit universal was just fine. i asked him if it was acceptable to extend the harness with trailer wire because it was color coded. he thought that it would be just fine. man, i was dumfounded. abominations like this end up in our shops and stuff hits the floor like hair in a barber shop.

May I ask why it is not good to extend the wires? Not doubting you, just wanting to know? I wouldn't use crimp on splices, but actual solder and heat shrink. I have never done this (I always get direct replacements), but if in a pinch, why not?

i've always worked with the more splices, length, wire guage, effects the integrity.

adding lenght to your o2 harness adds resistance (ohms) and could chande your readings during testing.
