Post by LMORRIS249 »

Changing oil on 2008 E320 diesel and cannot find what proper weight of oil to put in. Any help would be appreciated.

In my On Demand DVD program, it simply says "BLUETEC" and it takes 9 quart. It also says MB approved engine oil only.

Oil weight? Appears to be a good question.

That requires Mercedes spec 229.51. Current oils that meet that spec are Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5w40, Valvoline SynPower MST 5w30, Elf Solaris LSX 5w30. I'd probably use the 5w40.

Make SURE it states ON THE BOTTLE that it meets Mercedes spec 229.51.

Oh, and make sure you use a FLEECE oil filter. Use of any other type of filter may void the warranty. I think it takes 9 quarts.

Not a cheap oil change, to say the least.

I use the mob1 and mann filters for these and I get an hour for the job since the lof reset is difficult to do and MOST places are unable to do it.

LOL, I hear ya. I'm resetting an Audi for one of my customers who went back to the selling dealer because they offered a free oil change. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have charged an hour same as if we did the lof in cases like this. our new snapon can reset them but its not fast to set it up. But doing it throught the controls on steering wheel isnt either.
