1990 Chev Blazer - Slide?
We have a 1990 blazer hee that when u are driving down the road at i would say 50 or better and hit a patch of ice the front end will slide over and then back. Streering good tire are about one year old new brakes front and rear. Changed the t-case fluild and it had some metallic and could move the chain i would say about one inch. Would like any ideas of what to look for. We did see then the gear box did have a little bit of play but cant see that doing it

Re: 1990 Chevy Blazer slide
i'm not sure really what is it you're looking for. 50mp and hitting a patch of ice, vehicle veering a bit would be a god sent.

No it is when just one front tire hits the ice. Ether one dont matter. Feels like the brakes are hanging up on one side then the other it depends on witch side hits the ice.

Sounds to me like it has too much toe in the front end.

Ice, going over rubber train track crossings in the rain, one wheel in gravel other on pavement. Yes it will do it under these conditions and seem to drive good on dry pavement. Also when it is wet and you go over the painted stripes on the road can do it as well.

When you have excess toe, the front tires are trying to fight over which one is going to control the car, if one looses traction, it will get slid sideways by the other tire and the car will react like described.

Re: 1990 Chev Blazer - Slide?
ok, now here's a few questions. if it pulls right when the left tire hits the ice and it pulls left when the right tire hits ice i'd look towards a drag in the brakes. i would put it on my alignment rack and hang all four cameras on it to see if it's crabbing. ya, i know i said questions and gave statements. my daughter had an blazer of this year and always complained of a pulling issue and when i drove it i would have no problem. i finally went to her house and drove it the way she did when she left and had no issue. i made her drive and found that she rested her foot on the brake pedal and the a.b.s. was kicking in. now, not on a g.m but i did have an issue with a truck with similar issues and what i found was someone had stuffed a nut inside the master cylinder piston to extend the rod to give it a better pedal. when it was driven long enough the brakes would drag slightly and cause a pull issue. so now when i have any type of weird brake or pulling issue i'll open the bleeders one at a time to see if there is any pressure in the system. like we do to see if there is a collapsed flex line that won't allow the pressure to balance out.

Will i have checked the brakes all is great really all is new. Had it put on a alignment rack and they said then the ball joints where bad and the toe is out. Hoping this will fix it. It will go left when the right tire hits ice and right when left tire hits ice. It does it on both sides seems worse in 4 wheel drive then two wheel drive

Sounds like toe-out is excessive, with bad ball joints...

I think I would be looking at geting another alignment shop to do the alignment. Sounds like they are way off on it. I would be getting upset too. Hang in there and be the hero, or at least save what face you have left. Good luck.....

Re: 1990 Chev Blazer - Slide?
If the gear box was just too tight it should be able to be adjusted and correct that problem, but to me it sounds like not enough toe-in, that will cause it to not want to stay straight and feel "twitchy"92zman wrote:so did the ball joints and had it alignment done now the streering is way thouchy it is hard to make it go stright guy who did the alignment said the gear box is too tight dont get it when it drove better before we have a upset coutmer

ok, i know NOTHING about alignments and such but......
"It does it on both sides, seems worse in 4 wheel drive than two wheel drive."
Did you measure tires? My Subaru AWD was a psycho to drive till i replaced all four tires. Now it's a rocket. (kinda)

the ball joints had play in them had to be replasced before it was done. then when we got it back they said the gear box was tight and it is hard for the truck to go staight. Seamed then we fixed the sliding around but now it is hard to drive for the custmer.

is it hard for the wheel to go back and forth? does this thing have a steering stabilizer? if so take the shock off. it it drives well w/o the shock replace it.
