Having Problems With inventory Lists Not Printing In Numercial Order. If I Have Part Numbers Like F101254, F1043; These Would Print Behind One Another. It Should Print 4 Digit Numbers Then 5 digit Then 6 Digit And So On?
Is There A Way I Doing This correctly?
Thanks

Re: Inventory
Manager has sorted this way since I joined in 2003. I think it has something to do with the fact that part numbers are not really numbers, but often letters AND numbers. This means that the database field must contain both, and when it does it gets certain attributes. I think it's those attributes that cause the sorting issue. Someone with more knowledge about databases please chime in.

Re: Inventory Part Number Sorting?
I would also like this issue resolved. i know you can sort buy part # & by Part description.. I would still like the part #'s to be sorted by Numerical order, no matter if you are sorting by either way. So if you have a list of Serpentine Belts- all of the numbers are in order. When they are hanging in the shop they are in order, so when you try to do inventory it is in order. I usually sort by part description. so all of the belts, engine oils are together.

Re: Inventory Part Number Sorting?
Also, I am working on inventory pricing--I first sort by description- when i do that it sorts the part #'s different everytime
ie. part description is air filters- the part numbers have no order to them.
- so when working on pricing.. it is never in order ( also, bites when we are doing recounts-). When i have to get out of inventory to look a customers ticket or schedule someone- i lose my place, because the part #'s are in a different order than they were a minute or 2 before, so i basically have redo the whole section again... very, very frustrating.
It would be so nice if it would be in numerical order no matter how it is sorted.
Thanks, ARS

Re: Inventory Part Number Sorting?
This is typically how computers sort until you say otherwise. It is considering each numeral in the number as characters, one at a time rather than in total. (aka I don't care how many digits, just 0-9 on the first character, then consider the second character, etc.) In terms of files and folders in Microsoft operating systems, the old stuff (pre-XP) always sorted like that. Then under the newer operating systems you started to see a logical sorting that is more useful.
I will make inquiries to see what can be done.
